Community Council

Parent involvement is very important to student academic achievement. By serving on the school council, parents have the opportunity to collaborate with other parents, teachers and the principal to set and achieve school goals. Parents are rewarded with a better understanding of the educational process and have the opportunity to develop relationships with school leadership. A parent always serves as chair of the council. Parents make up the majority of the council and are often the driving force in how School LAND Trust funds are spent.

School Land Trust Annual Summary

SV Land Trust - Final Report - 2015-2016

SHADOW VALLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LAND TRUST
FINAL SUMMARY REPORT - 2015-2016 SCHOOL YEAR

Shadow Valley Elementary used School LAND Trust monies to hire two additional
part -time teachers to provide extension and enrichment opportunities for our students. The
first teacher focused on writing in the content area with an emphasis on science and using
the Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning Process. The second teacher worked with students in
mathematics. She focused on providing real life math application problems to the students
as well as giving them more rigorous problems to solve.
Students who showed mastery of grade level concepts currently being taught in class
for these two subject areas were given the opportunity to attend the Math and Writing
Enrichment Class(es). In these classes, their knowledge was expanded through higher
level instruction, practice as well as completing more rigorous tasks.
Students who did not show mastery on the current grade level concepts being taught
received extra instruction and practice from the grade level teachers. During this Tier II
Intervention Time, teachers would work with students on the specific grade level standards
that they had not yet mastered. They would provide extra instruction using different
instructional strategies as well as additional practice.
Shadow Valley had a 7% increase in science and a 1.25% increase in English
Language Arts, and took a small drop of minus .75% on our math scores on Utah’s end of
level testing system, SAGE. We are grateful for the extra funding provided to our school
through the School LAND Trust Program that allowed our students to have these extra
learning opportunities.
